It’s that time of year again where we need to think about putting forward events for the Science Festival 2019! The theme is “Discovery”.
However, we can only do this with your help! The deadline for being part of the printed programme at Science Festival is 5 November so by 31 October we need to know if we have enough volunteers willing to take on the following roles:
- Coordinator for the Biomakespace events (very important - please speak to a committee members if interested!)
- Co-organiser of Art-Science Soiree
- Workshop instructor for a hands-on workshop for adults
- Biomakespace tour guides and exhibitors
The following are the events we’ve been discussing organising or co-organising:
Co-hosting an Art Science Soiree - Date TBC
These are cool evenings bringing together scientists and artists with informal talks, hands-on activities, reflection and discussion and of course snacks and cocktails. Get in touch by the end of the month if this would be of interest so we can work out if we have enough volunteers to go ahead!
Hands-on molecular biology workshop for adults - Date TBC
We would like to run an engaging, long-form activity for adults and maybe older teenagers. Ideally this would be using CRISPR or perhaps cell-free systems but it could also be PCR-based. Thought, ideas or willingness to help out? Get in touch!
Biomakespace Tours - Sunday 24th March
Tours of the Biomakespace on the Biomedical campus activities day. Preferably four or more volunteers, in order that people can take a break. At any time we need at least two people; one to admit people to the building and maintain the fire register, second to give the tour.
Lecture in Mill Lane - Date TBC
Jenny will already be giving a talk as part of the Public Lecture series so can include a section about Biomakespace! This means that the Science Festival sort out all of the venue, volunteers and tickets.
If you have any ideas or would like to offer help, ask questions, post suggestions and reply on the thread below. If you prefer to speak to a committee member, find us at a meeting or email email@example.com
